Decluttering for a Stress-Free Holiday
We all know what the holiday season entails; relatives, gifts, cozy nights, and endless merriment. But with all that stuff comes more stuff. Your decorations come out of storage, wrapping paper gets strewn about, stockings are filled with nicknacks that will haunt you for years, and if your home is already feeling a little full, these additions can snowball into an avalanche of stress which, it turns out, is completely avoidable! If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. The holidays can sneak up on us and before long we’re sitting in a living room full of clutter, making promises about our spring cleaning to-do list.
So here is your reminder: The holidays are coming and it’s not too late to spend a few minutes each day, prepping your spaces to welcome your loved ones home.
Below you will find your holiday decluttering guide. Clearing out the unnecessary before the holidays gives you space to welcome the season with open arms and a warm cookie, sans the stress!

Areas to tackle:
The Festive Closet
Why? Don’t you want room for your fabulous holiday attire? Especially in the colder months, those bulky winter items crowd your closet, making it difficult to know what’s there. Ensure that you can get dressed in a jiffy before your guests arrive, by giving your closet a festive makeover.
How? Begin by taking stock of what you have. Discard or donate anything you haven’t worn in years. Arrange by color or styles or however works best for you!
The Gift Stash
Why? Organize your gift stash for stress-free, mess-free wrapping when Santa’s duties call.
How? Weed out unused or destroyed items and create a designated gift wrapping station.
The Attic (or wherever you keep your decorations)
Why? Realistically you’re probably not using all your decorations every year. And every year you have to sort through what you have, trying to decide what to put up. Take it one step further and ditch the unused pieces.
How? It's that simple, get rid of the rest. And when you’re ready to take the decorations down the process will be that much easier.
The Kitchen Clear Out
Why? Streamline your kitchen cabinets and make space for those seasonal pieces. Bid farewell to cracked dishes and mismatched glasses. Create space for your culinary experiments and delectable Christmas treats.
How? It starts with two simple questions: Can I use this? Do I use this?
The Living Spaces
Why? It’s time to get rid of the things so that there’s space for the people.
How? Pare down knick-knacks and rearrange furniture for a cozy, inviting atmosphere. An uncluttered living room fosters conversation, games, and family traditions.
The Playroom
Why? Before the new influx of toys from Santa, consider donating the old ones gathering dust. Spread joy to others while making space for new memories.
How? Up to you whether you consult the kiddos or not, but generally unused or outgrown items can go.
